Maintains a state of readiness/preparation for emergency response: follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals: checks/maintains stock of equipment and supplies on fire and police vehicles; re-loads equipment and apparatus following response to emergency calls; assists in preparing apparatus for subsequent emergencies and in testing and inspecting personal equipment, uniform, hoses/pumps, weapons, and other tools and apparatus; ensures the emergency medical service equipment is properly stocked and operational; performs other routine maintenance and housekeeping duties; and reports faulty equipment for necessary maintenance work. Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, fire, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, explosives, firearms, water hazards, violence, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
