The Surgical Assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform transport and transfer, based on physical, psychosocial, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, which may be gained through education, training, or experience. Under the direction of the Service Line Supervisor and Director of Surgical Services, the Surgical Assistant is responsible for the proper handling and sterilization of instruments and equipment to render them safe for handling and use.
