The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for coordinating surgical procedures, preparing and coordinating pre-operative and post-operative patient care, and ensuring efficient communication between the hospitals, surgery centers and in-office procedures with physicians and our affiliates. Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in healthcare or a related field preferred.

Summary: The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for coordinating surgical procedures, preparing and coordinating pre-operative and post-operative patient care, and ensuring efficient communication between the hospitals, surgery centers and in-office procedures with physicians and our affiliates.  Essential Functions: <ul><li>Responsible for scheduling surgeries, procedures and deliveries for our providers with the correct facility.  </li><li>Responsible for pre-surgery coordination with patients including tests and insurance.  </li><li>Conducts the insurance verifications and pre-authorizations, verifying coverage and communicating details with patient and the billing department. </li><li>Provides explanation and counseling regarding their upcoming surgery or procedure and provides any additional patient information as needed.  </li></ul>Primary Duties: <ul><li>Obtains surgical authorizations from insurance carriers.  </li><li>Verify insurance benefits to determine patient out-of-pocket costs and advise patients of payment options.  </li><li>Prepares necessary medical records and documents for patient charts.  </li><li>Respond to (patients/vendors/employees) </li><li>Coordinates and schedules preoperative testing, history and physical, and surgical procedures with facilities, patient and provider.  </li><li>Identify, request, and coordinate specialized equipment and/or personnel requested by physicians for each surgical case.  </li><li>Maintains appropriate surgical logs for all physicians in the practice.  </li></ul>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: <ul><li>Strong knowledge of medical terminology, specifically Ob/Gyn terminology. </li><li>Knowledge of insurance policies, pre-authorization processes, and HIPPA regulations. </li><li>Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage time effectively.  </li><li>Proficient in EHR and scheduling software.  </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with medical professionals and provide empathetic patient support.  </li><li>Ability to handle unexpected situations calmly and problem-solving patient concerns or conflicts. </li></ul>Work Environment <ul><li>May require occasional travel or overtime. </li><li>Work is performed in a professional healthcare setting. </li><li>Possible exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, and toxic substances in the work environment. </li></ul>Physical Demands <ul><li>Ability to lift and move medical equipment and supplies up to 10 pounds  </li><li>Extended periods of standing and/or walking. </li><li>Manual ability for handling instruments and equipment.  </li></ul>Education <ul><li>Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in healthcare or a related field preferred.  </li></ul>Experience <ul><li>Experience: 2 years of experience in a healthcare coordination, surgical scheduling or similar position.  </li></ul>   Powered by JazzHR
