A comprehensive exam program including financial support and study time is provided for highly motivated candidates who can progress through the examinations of the Casualty Actuarial Society, ultimately leading to Associateship or Fellowship in the CAS. Highly developed programming skills are critical to success in this role. This position provides skill and expertise in the areas of data acquisition, presentation, reconciliation, actuarial rate indications, loss reserve analysis, and/or financial or generalized linear modeling. The Senior Actuarial Analyst will perform complex actuarial analyses under minimal supervision.Chart Your Course:<ul><li>Collect data, perform analyses, and present results for pricing indications, loss reserve reviews and/or financial modeling. Participate in actuarial analysis and recommendations to improve profitability, reserve accuracy, or modeled results including assisting in the development of appropriate methodologies and monitoring systems.</li><li>Become intimately familiar with company data systems and department processes to allow for conversion, enhancements, automation, and formal documentation of improvements.</li><li>Participate in special projects related to statistical modeling, development of new or revised systems and attendant reporting mechanisms, and problem solving, or investigation related to data acquisition/refinement and availability. Respond to requests for special assistance, financial information, or actuarial support to other company departments or to senior management.</li><li>Collect and present statistical information on company experience and financial results.</li><li>Participation in peer review as ability and experience allows.</li><li>Participate in continuous learning activities, including building relationships across the company with colleagues in accounting, claims, finance, marketing, as well as within the actuarial department.</li><li>Progress toward actuarial accreditation through successful completion of actuarial exams.</li><li>Performs routine actuarial analysis under minimal to moderate supervision.</li></ul>Your Ticket to Success:<ul><li>5+ years of actuarial experience.</li><li>Advanced knowledge and experience using Excel.</li><li>Extensive experience extracting and manipulating data, preferably using SQL, Python, R, VBA, or a similar programming language.</li><li>Advanced skills in data acquisition, manipulation, and analysis using programming languages.</li><li>Ability and willingness to continue participation in the actuarial exam program.</li><li>Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, email, and the internet.</li><li>Effective communication skills (both written and verbal).</li><li>Assesses unusual circumstances and uses sophisticated analytical and problem-solving techniques to identify the cause.</li><li>Resolves and assesses a wide range of issues in creative ways and suggests variations in approach.</li><li>Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of information requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Devises solutions based on limited information and precedent and adapts existing approaches to resolve issues. Uses evaluation, judgment, and interpretation to select the right course of action.</li><li>Work is done independently and is reviewed at critical points.</li><li>Adapts style to differing audiences and may advise others on difficult matters.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>Completion of at least 3 actuarial exams preferred. .</li></ul>Education/Certifications:<ul><li>High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.</li></ul><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, or economics; or computer science with a strong secondary concentration or minor in one of above.</li></ul>Position Coordinates:This is a hybrid role based out of our San Diego, CA office. As a hybrid role, you will be working onsite 2-3 days a week and working from home 2-3 days a week.Time for Take-off:While there is some flexibility in the hours, this position will be Monday-Friday during regular business hours (approximately 8:00am-5:00pm).
