Extended School Year (summer) 5 days a week 8:00-1:00 Full time in the fall The job of "Special Education Teacher – Severe/Profound Disabilities" is done for the purpose(s) of facilitating Special Education student success in the least restrictive environment in the areas of academics, behavior regulation, interpersonal/social skills, self-management, and activities of daily living through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing specific needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, and to ensure access to general education curriculum and non-disabled peers to the greatest extent possible. • Demonstrate an understanding of functional skills and implement a system of positive behavior interventions • Familiarity with IEP process and reporting • Skills in managing challenging student behaviors strongly preferred • Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment • Assist in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom interventions • Maintain appropriate records for the purpose of continuous progress monitoring All educators hired by MPS must provide Certification of demonstrated Proficiency or Awareness in Science of Reading and Structured Literacy, appropriate to the work assignment.
