Overview:
Student in a twenty-four (24) month course of study to become proficient and capable of performing diagnostic radiographic exams as ordered under the supervision of a radiologist. They must have the specific expertise and skills necessary for maintaining a safe radiological environment daily. The student radiologic technologist knows basic anatomy, physiology and physics as it pertains to patient care.

Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Provides imaging services and transportation to patients of all ages; including neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Provides patients and families with thorough explanations and adequate communication.</li><li>Practices radiation safety and follows dose reduction practices.</li><li>Demonstrates knowledge of human structure, function and pathology.</li><li>Anticipates and provides basic patient care and comfort as well as utilize universal precautions.</li><li>Upholds all safety standards related to assigned position. Follows the established protocols, practices and guidelines for assigned area of expertise to provide quality service. In Fall 2023, the Capstone set a new enrollment record with more than 39,000 students, including more than 8,200 in the freshman class. The current enrollment includes students from every county in Alabama, every state in the nation and 92 countries around the world. More than 1,100 National Merit Scholars are currently enrolled, making UA one of the largest enrolling institutions of the scholars in the country. UA was recently recognized as a Top Producing Institution of Fulbright U.S. students for the seventh time in nine years, as well as a Top Producing Institution of Fulbright U.S. Scholars for the first time.
