A Brief Overview Accountable for providing high quality professional care to patients and families under the supervision of the Surgery Leader and/or Surgeon within the surgical suites and other clinical areas within their scope of practice. 

 What you will do <ul><li> Assists surgeon within the scope of competency and standards of practice. Utilizes techniques of infection control/universal precautions. Washes and sterilizes equipment and keeps a clean operating room. </li><li> Rotates in SPD area cleaning & sterilizing instruments for OR, floors, ER, & clinics. </li><li> Updates preference cards to ensure all team members can perform procedures as per surgeon requests. </li><li> Complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedure, and standards of practice. </li><li> Verifies patient identity. Verifies operative procedure, operative site, surgeon, and consent. </li><li> Applies and monitors the principles of aseptic technique throughout the intraoperative period. </li><li> Performs sponge, needle and instrument counts according to policy procedure. </li><li> Participates in the evaluation of new supplies, equipment and/or instruments. </li><li> Places equipment and supplies in operating room and arranges instruments according to instructions. </li></ul> Essential Qualifications The individual must be able to work the hours specified. The Surgical Technician Apprentice will assist other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during surgical procedures.

Typically 18 months of schooling with a 3 year commitment to work in the department following graduation and certification exam Monday - Friday: occas wknd/hol/call; 80hrs/2wks You Belong at Avera Be part of a multidisciplinary team built with compassion and the goal of Moving Health Forward for you and our patients. Work where you matter. A Brief Overview Performs surgical technician and sterile processing duties while studying toward certification, within limits of current training and competency. The Surgical Technician Apprentice will assist other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during surgical procedures. What you will do <ul><li> Assists surgeons by handing required instruments during procedures without difficulty. Selects product(s) for procedures. Performs all suture and instrument counts without error. </li><li> Assists in daily testing and operations of sterilizers. Records sterilizer testing and operations of sterilizers. Decontaminates all instruments and equipment per established policy/procedure following specified cleaning method. </li><li> Documents cleaning process of terminal cleans and assigned rooms each month. Maintains turnover time within acceptable limits. </li><li> Stores products appropriately. Checks for outdated supplies. </li><li> Monitors back orders. Maintains a 3 week par level and informs director if ordered product does not arrive after 1 week. </li><li> Understands the care and handling of all equipment that reaches the instrument decontamination room. </li><li> Follows posted instructions on requirements of special equipment handling; ie: milking, nosonicing, special steam. </li><li> Prepares instrument and supply packs for distribution. Ensures instrument sets are in proper working order. Wraps all supplies in correct type of wrapper and correct size to maintain the sterility of the instrument or tray. </li><li> Labels the instrument or tray accurately and clearly for proper storage, including name of article, date of expiration and initials on wrapper. Labels the article with gas or steam sterilization indicator tapes to ensure article has been subjected to sterilization. </li><li> Communicates and educates other OR staff on the proper processing of new and changing instrumentation. </li></ul> Essential Qualifications The individual must be able to work the hours specified.
