Principal duties and responsibilities include: Acts as an integral member of the surgical service for patients on the surgical service from inpatient services (both the ICU and the convalescent wards) to outpatient settings to include the following: conducting history and physical exams, ordering and interpreting lab tests, prescribing medications, developing and monitoring patient treatment plans, making appropriate referrals to other specialists, and prescribing and ordering appropriate treatment modalities. Performs minor procedures, including but not limited to: peripheral IV access, central venous access, PICC line placement, repair of lacerations, incision/drainage/washout/debridement of wounds, tube thoracostomy, tracheostomy changes, arterial catheter placement, removal of drains/sutures/staples, placement and removal of N-G tubes/N-D tubes/foley catheters, and assisting with surgery consistent with institutional processes.
