Erects scaffolding and ladders; spreads canvas or cloth over surfaces and objects to prevent paint spattering; removes old paint or varnish by scraping, burning or sand papering, and otherwise; prepares the surface to be painted; mixes and matches paints, varnishes, enamels, lacquers, calcimines, and mixes paints and varnish removers; applies paints, varnishes, lacquers, and enamels to interior and exterior surfaces of furniture, and to wood and metal equipment, with brush, spray gun or roller; applies water proofing paint to roofs and other surfaces requiring such treatment; estimates time and material required; keeps simple records and prepares simple reports of work performed; cleans and maintains brushes; spray guns, and other equipment; directs the work of helpers as assigned; must follow county policies and procedures; maintain positive work habits and attitudes; perform duties efficiently and productively, maintain and/or upgrade skills as required; Promote positive public communications; maintain professional appearance; must be punctual and minimize absences; take initiative in performing assigned tasks. Cuts and trims grass; trims shrubs and trees; fertilizes and feeds athletic fields and lawns; lays out and paints athletic fields; rakes leaves and polices grounds; digs ditches; cuts down trees; proper handling of vehicles; erects snow fences; moves snow; operates plow trucks; salts and sands walkways, steps, driveways and roads; hauls furniture and other objects; burns trash; does minor carpentry, cement repair, painting, plumbing, electrical and other building maintenance work and assists skilled craftsmen in performing skilled tasks; assembles, repairs and tears down bleachers; may work on custodial crews in the cleaning of buildings; uses a variety of tools and equipment, including- tractors, spreaders, weed trimmers, chainsaws, drags, mowers, trenchers, front loader, and various motor vehicles, as required.
