This person should be comfortable reviewing class notes, labs, and assessments to understand how the course is taught, teaching in a way that supports that approach, and helping the student build the habits and confidence to work through problems independently between sessions. A student who cannot balance an equation or complete a stoichiometry problem is often stuck earlier than the problem in front of them, on unit conversions, ratios, algebra, or a shaky picture of what atoms and molecules are doing, and working more practice problems will not fix a gap the student cannot see.
