Typical Qualifications High School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical school training in one or more of the following: building construction, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and/or other trade; four (4) year(s) previous experience in building construction, plumbing, electrical and/or HVAC inspections and code enforcement is preferred for positions in Construction Development Department; or four (4) years of experience in residential construction, including home inspection, property claims adjuster, or construction project management work is preferred for positions in Community Development Department; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Examples of Duties Interprets and enforces ordinances and codes related to building construction, plumbing systems, heating ventilation, air conditioning, (HVAC) fuel oil systems, pool and spa heaters, electrical or other systems in new construction and existing residential, commercial, and industrial structures; inspects properties in the process of construction, alteration, repair or demolition for compliance with applicable codes; verifies conformance to applicable codes, ordinances, and approved plans; re-visits areas with repeat violators.
