Position SummaryThe Day Camp Arts & Crafts Specialist brings creativity and imagination to camp by planning and leading engaging art experiences for campers of all ages. This role helps campers express themselves through hands-on projects while fostering confidence, curiosity, and collaboration. Working under the supervision of the Program Director, the Arts & Crafts Specialist develops and delivers safe, age-appropriate art programs that reflect camp themes and the Girl Scout mission. All activities must meet the standards of the Girl Scouts of Connecticut (GSofCT), the American Camp Association (ACA), State of Connecticut Youth Camp regulations, and Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints. Essential ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership<ul><li>Plan, organize, and deliver daily arts and crafts projects that are creative, inclusive, and aligned with weekly camp themes. </li><li>Encourage campers to experiment with a variety of media including paint, natural materials, recycled art, clay, and textiles. </li><li>Provide clear, engaging instruction while promoting camper choice and creativity. </li><li>Develop a safe and welcoming environment that encourages girls to express themselves freely. </li><li>Support girl-led programming by inviting camper ideas for projects and displays. </li></ul>Program Administration & Preparation<ul><li>Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked craft area. </li><li>Manage daily setup, cleanup, and care of supplies and equipment. </li><li>Track inventory, order materials within budget limits, and prepare a season-end supply report. </li><li>Coordinate project schedules with the Program Director and Unit Leaders to ensure balanced programming. </li><li>Create and maintain program curricula and written instructions for future use. </li></ul>Health, Safety, and Compliance<ul><li>Enforce all safety standards related to tools, materials, and workspace setup. </li><li>Ensure proper ventilation, safe use of adhesives and paints, and appropriate protective gear when needed. </li><li>Monitor camper health and safety during art activities, including allergy awareness. </li><li>Report accidents, injuries, or incidents promptly and complete required documentation. </li><li>Participate in emergency drills and follow all camp safety procedures. </li></ul>Collaboration & Communication<ul><li>Work closely with the Program Director, Unit Leaders, and administrative team to support overall camp programming. </li><li>Participate in pre-camp and in-service training, weekly meetings, and advisory planning sessions. </li><li>Communicate regularly with the Program Director regarding program needs, challenges, and camper achievements. </li><li>Support camp wide events, ceremonies, and themed activities as needed. </li></ul>Other Duties<ul><li>Participate in opening and closing procedures for the craft area and camp season. </li><li>Maintain professional, positive relationships with campers and staff. </li><li>Attend both optional camper overnights/late nights as applicable. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned to support camp operations and programming. </li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Must be at least 18 years of age. </li><li>High school diploma or equivalent required. </li><li>Prior experience teaching, leading, or assisting with art or craft programming preferred. </li><li>Current Adult & Child FA/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). </li><li>Strong organizational skills and ability to manage supplies and budgets effectively. </li><li>Ability to inspire creativity and confidence in children through hands-on learning. </li><li>Positive, flexible, and patient approach to working with campers and staff. </li><li>Commitment to the Girl Scout Mission and to delivering inclusive, girl-led programming. </li></ul>Physical Requirements<ul><li>Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions. </li><li>Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. </li><li>Ability to stand for extended periods and perform setup/cleanup tasks. </li><li>Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and behavioral cues. </li><li>Ability to provide first aid and respond calmly in emergencies. </li></ul>
