<p>BAYADA is reaching out to the community in search of Veteran volunteers to connect with our Veteran patients in need of camaraderie at the end of their life. As a <strong>Patient Care Volunteer</strong>, you aren't just providing a service—you are providing humanity, dignity, and friendship when it is needed most.</p><p>Hospice care supports patients and families during the final phase of life. We are looking for empathetic individuals who have the heart to "show up" for others. This role offers a unique opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life, deepening your own emotional and spiritual perspective while serving as a vital member of our care team.</p><h3><strong>The Impact You'll Make</strong></h3><p>As a volunteer, you will act as a friend and companion to patients with a terminal diagnosis (six months or less to live). You will provide essential emotional support and companionship, as well as much-needed "respite" (a short break) for family caregivers.</p><p><strong>Location:</strong> Visits take place in the patient's home, assisted living facilities, or nursing homes within your local area.</p><h3><strong>Your Responsibilities</strong></h3><ul><li><strong>Companionship:</strong> Engage in active listening, bedside sitting, or simple conversation.</li><li><strong>Shared Activities:</strong> Connect through hobbies such as reading, watching movies, playing cards, discussing life stories, or listening to music.</li><li><strong>Caregiver Support:</strong> Provide 2–4 hour blocks of "respite care," allowing family members to run errands, rest, or take a break.</li><li><strong>Documentation & Ethics:</strong> Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient and family information.</li><li><strong><u>We value the unique talents you bring; we will tailor your specific volunteer responsibilities to align with your personal abilities, comfort level, and schedule availability.</u></strong></li></ul><h3><strong>Qualifications</strong></h3><ul><li><strong>Character:</strong> Compassionate, reliable, punctual, and an excellent listener.</li><li><strong>Age:</strong> Must be 18 years or older.</li><li><strong>Requirements:</strong> Must have a valid driver's license and reliable auto insurance.</li><li><strong>Screening:</strong> Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug test.</li><li><strong>Commitment:</strong> * Complete a minimum of 10 hours of volunteering within the first 90 days.<ul><li>Commit to a minimum of 6 months of total volunteer service.</li></ul></li><li><strong>Bonus:</strong> Bilingual skills are a plus!</li></ul><h3><strong>Training & Support</strong></h3><p>You are never alone in this journey.
