This role involves collaborating with various departments to integrate volunteers into organizational activities and drive overall volunteer retention, recognition and engagement.Essential Functions:Strategic Planning:<ul><li>Develop and execute comprehensive volunteer engagement strategies aligned with the organization's mission and objectives.</li><li>Evaluate volunteer programs and implement strategic changes as necessary to ensure programs are impactful and meet the needs of both the organization and the volunteers.</li><li>Develop, administer, and review policies and procedures which guide the volunteer program and reflect the values of the organization.</li><li>Evaluate risks associated with volunteer programs, monitor trends in incident reports, and implement strategic actions to minimize risk and increase safety.</li><li>Establish and implement short and long-term departmental goals and objectives.</li></ul>Collaboration:<ul><li>Work closely with other departments to identify volunteer needs and integrate volunteers into organizational activities.</li><li>Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, and businesses to promote volunteer opportunities and partnerships.</li><li>Regularly report on the status of the volunteer programs and their contributions to the organization to senior leadership.</li></ul>Recruitment, Retention, and Training:<ul><li>Lead a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming volunteer acquisition strategy to identify and recruit qualified and engaged volunteers.</li><li>Develop initiatives to retain volunteers, including recognition and engagement, and opportunities for feedback, growth, and development.</li><li>Oversee training programs that equip volunteers with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their roles effectively.</li></ul>Leadership:<ul><li>Provide supervision, coaching, and development to direct reports as noted on the organizational chart, acknowledging accomplishments and providing regular feedback.</li><li>Conduct one-on-one meetings with direct reports to ensure team members have the resources and support to be successful.</li></ul><ul><li>Address and resolve any issues or conflicts within the team.</li><li>Review and approve timecards and requested time off within payroll deadlines, working closely with employees to resolve discrepancies.</li><li>Manage budgets and complete revenue/expense reports as required by Finance.</li></ul>Communication and Culture:<ul><li>Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, other employees, and volunteers.</li><li>Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a welcoming environment for all.</li><li>Represent the organization at community events and other public outlets to promote volunteer programs.</li></ul>Technology:<ul><li>Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.</li></ul>Other duties as assigned.Additional Information:Schedule and Attendance:<ul><li>Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operational hours.</li><li>Attend and participate in regular team meetings, leadership meetings, all-staff meetings, and one-on-one meetings with direct leader.</li><li>Must be able to travel to a different work site based on department needs</li><li>May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events.</li></ul>Work Environment:<ul><li>Primarily office/desk based.</li><li>Adjacent animal shelter areas may be humid, noisy, or odorous.</li></ul>Experience:<ul><li>A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in volunteer management and engagement.</li><li>Proven track record of developing and executing successful volunteer programs.</li><li>Experience in animal welfare preferred.</li></ul>Skills:<ul><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.</li><li>Strong leadership and people management skills.</li><li>Strong administrative, organizational, and process management skills.</li><li>Strong multi-tasking, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.</li><li>Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.</li></ul>Physical Demands:<ul><li>Prolonged sitting at a desk.</li><li>Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.</li></ul>Emotional Demands:<ul><li>Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.</li></ul>Transportation:<ul><li>Reliable transportation required.</li></ul>Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required for this role. OVERVIEW:Girls on the Run Minnesota (GOTR MN) prepares 3rd-8th grade girls and gender-expansive youth for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living by using an experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. We are currently seeking youth board members between the ages of 14-21 to provide unique perspective and experience.THE BOARD:The Board of Directors is an oversight body responsible for advising, guiding, governing, and promoting GOTR MN to support the organization's mission and impact. Board members will actively participate in strategic planning, organizational expansion, and fundraising. When youth serve on our Board of Directors, they bring their lived experiences to the active process of decision-making as they help raise issues, vote, advocate, and critique the policies, processes, and programs that serve them and their peers.PRIORITIES:First and foremost, we are seeking applicants who have a passion for the Girls on the Run mission and vision. Prior volunteer experience and prior GOTR participation are preferred but not required. We are also prioritizing applicants who identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of color.BOARD MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES: Youth members of the GOTR MN Board of Directors are expected to:<ol><li>Act as a full voting Board Member</li><li>Provide organizational and fiduciary oversight, leadership, and advisement</li><li>Engage in strategic planning and annual evaluation efforts</li><li>Guide and prioritize GOTR's inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) work</li><li>Regularly attend and prepare for Board meetings (dates below)</li><li>Participate actively in Board work and organizational activities, including serving on at least one standing committee, supporting each fall and spring 5K, attending the annual fundraising event, and volunteering for special assignments</li><li>Stay informed about GOTR's mission, services, policies, and programs</li><li>Serve as an advocate for GOTR MN in the broader community</li><li>Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies</li></ol>EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:Time commitment: Youth Board Members commit to a one-year or two-year term, starting July 1, 2025. Time commitment includes 6 board meetings per year. This year, that includes four meetings via Zoom (August 12, December 9, April 14, and June 16) and two meetings in-person in the Twin Cities (October 8 from 3 - 6 PM and February 6 from 8 AM - 3 PM), along with a new board member orientation via Zoom July 17 from 6 - 8 PM. Board Members also assist as Lead Volunteers at the GOTR 5K each season (generally the second weekend in November and the first weekend in June).
