Examples of specialized experience includes: (1) leading a crew of three or more firefighters, including at least one firefighter assigned to operate major motorized firefighting apparatus (such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, or Airport Rescue Fire Fighting [ARFF] vehicles) during structural, crash, and rescue operations; (2) directing firefighting personnel in crash/rescue and fire suppression operations at airfields servicing complex airframes (including cargo, passenger, and bomber aircraft); (3) leading structural firefighting operations across diverse facilities, including research facilities and major industrial complexes; (4) directing hazardous materials (HAZMAT) containment, mitigation, and control operations, as well as administering Basic Life Support (BLS) and pre-hospital emergency medical care; (5) conducting personnel extrication and emergency rescue, applying critical first aid, and preparing casualties for medical transport; (6) assigning and overseeing routine, preventive maintenance of specialized apparatus, equipment, and station facilities; and (7) enforcing compliance with established occupational health, safety, and environmental (OSH/EPA) protocols to maximize operational safety. Certification requirements for this position are: Department of Defense (DoD) Firefighter Certification System as Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II), Apparatus Driver Operator- Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply (MWS*) (Has 1-year to obtain), National Registry or State of Alaska Emergency Medical Technical- Basic (EMT-B) certification.
