The Accountant will play a crucial role in managing financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This temporary position is based in Brooklyn and supports the financial operations of a not-for-profit organization.
Client Details
A mission-driven organization is seeking a Staff Accountant or Senior Accountant to provide broad-based accounting support across a collaborative finance team. This individual will assist with month-end close, reconciliations, payroll, AP, AR, banking activities, and various accounting projects while partnering closely with finance leadership.
Description
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking activities
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Maintain accounting schedules and supporting documentation
- Support audit preparation and requests
- Investigate and resolve account discrepancies
- Assist with cash management activities
- Support reporting initiatives and ad hoc accounting projects
- Partner with finance team members across various functions
- Provide hands-on support throughout accounting operations
Profile
- 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience with exposure to multiple accounting functions
- Hands-on experience supporting AP, AR, payroll, banking, reconciliations, and general ledger activities
- Strong understanding of month-end close processes, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems
- Adaptable accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats and supporting a variety of accounting and finance initiatives
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to learn new processes and responsibilities
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across finance teams
- Nonprofit experience is a plus, but candidates from other industries with broad accounting exposure are encouraged to apply
- Ideal background includes Staff Accountants or Senior Accountants from small to mid-sized organizations where they have gained well-rounded accounting experience rather than a narrow specialty.
