The Diocese of Columbus is hiring an Accounting Manager. Under the supervision of the Controller and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Accounting Manager manages and monitors the day-to-day functioning of the Office of Finance. The ideal candidate also provides consultative services to parishes, schools, and other Diocesan offices, and recognizes the value of financial data in planning and operational control. 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
           
  1. Assist in oversight of daily accounting functions including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
  2. Assist in leadership of monthly and year-end closing processes and financial reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  3. Ensure proper tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds in compliance with donor intent and grant agreements.
  4. Plays a key role in the annual budget process for the Diocese, including working with the Financial Reporting Manager regarding the compilation of data, review of results, and reporting.
  5. Assists with the coordination of the annual audit of all entities of the Diocese, including interim and year-end schedules requested by our external auditor, review of audit narratives, asset and liability reconciliations, net asset roll forwards, and other support for financial statement disclosure.
  6. Ensure timely preparation of audit schedules, donor reporting and other required documentation.
  7. Lead preparation for annual filings of IRS forms 990 in cooperation with the Controller and external auditors.
  8. Assists in preparation of annual financial statements, including preparation of financial statement footnotes.
  9. Participate in maintenance of financial policies and internal controls.
  10. Assist with the revision, implementation, and improvement of accounting systems and procedures.
  11. Supervise and mentor accounting team members, supporting professional development and promoting a collaborative, mission-focused work environment.
  12. Regular attendance and punctuality is essential for this job.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Education:  Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting is required.
  • Experience: Eight-years related experience and supervisor experience is required. 
  • Licensing: Certified Public Accountant.
  • Job Related Skills: Ability to communicate effectively both in written format and oral presentation; ability to maintain organization, multi-task and establish priorities; exhibits initiative, responsibility and flexibility; ability to research issues using expert materials available on the Internet; requires excellent analytical skills and concern for details and must be proficient in MS Office software – Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Interpersonal Skills:  Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills when dealing with co-workers, students, families and the general public.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, legal documents or government regulations; ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies or members of the business and general community at large.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic accounting functions using automated system; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to manipulate, interpret, and analyze numbers.
  • Reasoning Skills: Ability to communicate sensitive information; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Work Environment: The ability to maintain all information highly confidential.
