Our client, an investment firm, is seeking a Business Manager, Special Projects to join their team in New York, NY!
This role sits inside the Office of the Chief of Staff for Engineering, supporting a Chief of Staff whose remit cuts across every COO in the org. The Business Manager will take on a significant portion of the Chief of Staff's day-to-day workload from board and external meeting preparation to budget financials, consultant spend justification, and cross-functional program management and will be a key partner to the CFO on engineering-wide spend.
Responsibilities:Special Projects & Chief of Staff Support- Take on a broad, evolving set of responsibilities on behalf of the Chief of Staff, with priorities that shift frequently based on business need.
- Lead and manage ad hoc special projects end-to-end, exercising judgment on where to focus given competing priorities.
- Develop an intuition for where things are going well across the org and where they're falling through the cracks and act on it proactively.
- Support high-stakes moments such as board meetings and other senior leadership or external engagements as needed.
Financial & Operational Oversight- Partner with Finance on budget planning, tracking, and reporting for the Engineering org.
- Provide oversight and justification for outside spend, including third-party consultant and vendor engagements.
- Bring structure and rigor to operational processes that don't yet have one.
Transformation & AI Enablement- Support broader transformation initiatives underway across Engineering, including internal AI tooling and platforms.
- Help drive program management and communications as new tools and ways of working roll out across the org.
- Stay current on the AI landscape and bring that fluency into day-to-day work, including comfort using AI tools such as Claude.
Cross-Functional Partnership- Work across multiple senior stakeholders and teams, given the cross-cutting nature of the Chief of Staff function.
- Build relationships with peers in similar business-manager or chief-of-staff-adjacent roles, sharing best practices across the group.
- Act as a trusted, low-ego partner who can get to the root of a problem quickly and collaboratively.
Qualifications:- 10+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong understanding of organizational structures and the business context behind decisions.
- Sharp intuition for identifying where processes are working and where they're breaking down.
- Collaborative and genuinely eager to solve problems.
- Operates with a sense of urgency and doesn't let perfection get in the way of progress.
- Background in financial services strongly preferred; will also consider candidates from tech firms that serve financial services clients.
- Comfortable with tech-industry terminology and financial concepts.
- Versed in AI and comfortable using AI tools (e.g., Claude) as part of daily work.
- Proficiency with Jira and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively amid ambiguity and frequently shifting priorities.
Pay Rate: $100 - $125/hr
