Controller – Home Care Agency

Location: Brooklyn, NY
Compensation: 175k+ DOE
Schedule: Full-Time, In-Office

A growing multi-state home care organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is a hands-on leadership role for a strong financial professional who can oversee day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, compliance, cash management, and strategic planning while developing a high-performing finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, cash management, payroll oversight, and financial reporting.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Manage audits, financial reviews, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Prepare financial reports, dashboards, and analysis for ownership and executive leadership.
  • Monitor cash flow, banking relationships, forecasting, and overall financial performance.
  • Analyze profitability, labor costs, reimbursement trends, and operational metrics to support business decisions.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, growth initiatives, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, labor regulations, wage parity requirements, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Oversee insurance programs, including workers' compensation and liability coverage.
  • Manage accounting and financial operations across multiple entities and locations.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and scalable accounting processes.
  • Assist with system improvements, ERP implementations, payroll systems, and operational efficiencies.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff.
  • Establish accountability, performance standards, and professional development goals.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, HR, and executive leadership to support organizational growth.
  • Build and strengthen a finance team capable of supporting a rapidly expanding organization.

Qualifications

  • Proven Controller or senior accounting leadership experience required.
  • Home care, healthcare, healthcare services, or related industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in financial reporting, audits, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing payroll and multi-entity accounting operations is a major plus.
  • Knowledge of home care reimbursement, labor regulations, and compliance requirements preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to build, mentor, and manage teams.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
