Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Cook to join our dietary team. The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals that meet residents' dietary needs while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. In the absence of the Dietary Supervisor, the Cook may assist with overseeing daily kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals according to approved menus and recipes
- Ensure meals meet physician-ordered dietary restrictions and special dietary needs
- Prepare and serve food in appropriate portions
- Prepare pureed and modified-consistency diets accurately
- Record and monitor food temperatures to ensure food safety compliance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation area
- Assist with meal service and tray preparation as needed
- Clean cooking equipment, serving carts, and workstations
- Maintain proper sanitizer solutions and follow infection control procedures
- Monitor food quality, presentation, and resident satisfaction
- Report resident concerns and dietary issues to nursing leadership and administration
- Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff
- Ensure all cleaning schedules and sanitation standards are followed
- Work cooperatively with all departments to provide excellent resident care
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum of one year of cooking experience in a hospital, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or long-term care environment
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets and dietary restrictions
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
- ServSafe Certification required or ability to obtain and maintain certification
- Experience with PointClickCare (PCC) preferred
- Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health
