Staff Accountant I

Role Summary:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing accurate recordings, analysis, and reporting on job costing, accounts receivable, and account payable.  This role will assist in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and month-end close processes. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across finance and operations teams. 

  

Responsibilities: 

Maintain and oversee Spectrum Accounting software.  

Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Equipment, General Ledger, Job Costing, Payroll, Inventory Control and Purchase Order modules.

Weekly cost review, analysis, reconciliations, and journal entries.

Contract Administration. Process both prime and subcontracts from initial award through legal review and final execution.

Knowledge of FHWA 1273 reporting related to certified payrolls.

New job set up/import.   

 Daily interaction with management on issues related to all financial and related areas.

Monitor and analyze monthly overhead spending vs. budget, and identify variances 

Year-end support with internal auditors.

Special projects as assigned.

  Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or 7+ years’ detailed  experience in all phases of accounting and finance.

(With a degree 1-3 years’ experience.  Without a degree 7+ years of applied experience)

Strong understanding of accruals, expense allocation

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills 

Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and oversee a small staff.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1–3 years of accounting experience 

Proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point, Teams.
