HR Manager

Under the guidance of the HR Director, the Manager is responsible for a range of human resources activities including employee relations, strategic planning, policy interpretation, onboarding and secretarial coordination for the Dallas office. The Manager serves as a consultant to the Dallas management team on human resources related issues – anticipates various HR-related needs, and seeks to develop integrated solutions.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Provide employee relations advice and counsel to managers / supervisors regarding staff performance, personnel practices, policy and employment laws.
  • Document and attend meetings with staff regarding disciplinary matters.
  • Lead staff recruitment process in conjunction with hiring managers by assessing staffing needs, developing job descriptions, interviewing candidates, and creating offers of employment.
  • Manage new hire onboarding and conduct orientations.
  • Oversee performance management process, compensation recommendations, and goal setting.
  • Manage exit process for departing staff and attorneys, including processing relevant paperwork and conducting exit interviews.
  • Communicate various Firm policies and initiatives; respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs; advise management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Oversee data through the Firm's HRIS system (PeopleSoft) including data changes, salary changes, disability, leave, terminations, etc.
  • Represent Firm at personnel-related hearings and/or investigations.
  • Coordinate various local office events and serve as co-chair for the Fun Committee.
  • Assists with seasonal and yearly intern programs including hiring, training, support and supervision.
  • Reviews unemployment documents to make sure the terminated employee is entitled to the benefit.
  • Assists in the coordination of annual open enrollment and annual wellness events.
  • Monitors full-time, part-time and floating legal secretarial staff, coordinates secretarial coverage during absences and vacation schedules and helps to assign work to facilitate production.
  • Monitors secretarial workflow in Quest program and prepares reports as requested
  • Acts as liaison between staff and other support departments in disseminating information and formulating and implementing solutions to problems.
  • Recommends promotions, demotions, changes in assignments and disciplinary actions.
  • Evaluates performance of secretaries and coordinates annual review process.
  • Participates in Firm-wide HR teleconferences and works on associated projects.
  • Assist Office Manager with various projects.
  • Keep abreast of HR legislation and trends to ensure best practices and compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Recommend new approaches and/or procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Serve as back-up to the HR Director as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum 3 years experience in human resources management or senior human resources generalist experience
  • Law firm experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • High computer aptitude and ability to learn new software
  • Fast paced, efficient worker who is highly organized and takes appropriate initiative
  • Must be able to work well under pressure, be dependable, and work independently
  • Ability to keep sensitive information confidential and exercise extreme discretion
  • Self-confident and poised professional with excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including pleasant disposition, positive attitude, ability to get along well with others, and excellent phone manner
  • Creative and thinks outside of the box
Preferred:
  • PHR or SPHR Certification
