    Description

Medical Assistant (Front & Back Office) – Pulmonary & Sleep Practice

    Location: Full-Time, Temp to Hire

    About the Role

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and patient-focused Medical Assistant to join our growing Lung and Sleep practice. This role is a hybrid front and back office position, ideal for someone who enjoys variety, thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment, and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care.

You will play a critical role in both the clinical and administrative sides of the practice—supporting providers, ensuring smooth patient flow, and creating a welcoming experience from check-in to checkout.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Greet patients with professionalism and warmth, creating a positive first impression
    • Check patients in and out, verify demographics, and update insurance information
    • Answer and manage incoming calls, schedule appointments, and handle patient inquiries
    • Collect copays, balances, and ensure accurate documentation in the EMR
    • Coordinate referrals, authorizations, and follow-ups as needed

    Back Office Duties

    • Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints
    • Prepare patients for exams, procedures, and diagnostic testing
    • Assist providers during patient visits and minor procedures
    • Perform basic clinical tasks such as injections, EKGs, pulse oximetry, and spirometry (as trained)
    • Support sleep-related workflows including patient education on sleep studies, CPAP setup support, and follow-ups
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
    • Ensure exam rooms are stocked, clean, and compliant with clinical standards

    What to Expect

    • A dynamic role that blends patient care and administrative responsibilities
    • Close collaboration with providers and clinical staff in a specialty practice
    • Opportunity to develop skills in pulmonary and sleep medicine
    • A fast-paced environment where organization and communication are key
    • Meaningful patient interaction, supporting individuals with chronic respiratory and sleep conditions

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 3-4 years of Medical Assistant experience (pulmonary, sleep, or specialty care preferred)
    • Strong understanding of both front office workflows and clinical procedures
    • Experience with EMR systems (eClinicalWorks, Athena, or similar preferred)
    • Knowledge of insurance verification, referrals, and authorizations
    • Excellent communication and patient service skills
    • Ability to multitask and adapt in a hybrid role
    Key Traits We’re Looking For
    • Friendly, welcoming, and patient-centered
    • Highly organized and detail-oriented
    • Proactive and able to anticipate practice needs
    • Team player with a strong work ethic
    • Comfortable switching between front and back office responsibilities
