Job Description:

Summary:

The Office Assistant will work with the Chair of the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies. The Office Assistant will carry out administrative, communications, marketing, and event tasks. This includes organizing and maintaining the Chair's calendar of events, updating the website and social media outlets. The incumbent serves as primary contact for the media (such as television, radio, and print interviews) on behalf of the Chair.

Essential Functions:

  • Answer emails and greet guests.

  • Schedule appointments and maintain calendars.

  • Collect and distribute mail.

  • Prepare communications such as memos, emails, and letters of recommendation.

  • Perform data entry and analysis.

  • Assist with event planning and coordination.

  • Prepare expense reports.

  • Assist with Prof. Akbar Ahmed's academic/official work as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 20 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $18.40 - $22.50 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Strong written communication skills.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Ability to work self-sufficiently on assigned tasks.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Graphic design skills and social media management skills are a plus.

  • Experience with Canva and Eventbrite are strongly preferred.

  • Commitment to develop accessible materials for diverse graduate student body.
