Position Summary

The Principal Business Availability & Disaster Recovery Engineer leads the design, validation, and improvement of high-availability and disaster recovery solutions across the company's Windows infrastructure.

Both halves rest on a strong background in Windows systems administration, which the role also draws on directly for hands-on assessment, troubleshooting, and remediation of availability and recovery issues.

The role splits its time between the Business Availability team, which designs highly available Windows infrastructure and reduces reliance on planned maintenance windows, and the Disaster Recovery practice, which validates that Windows solutions meet recovery objectives.

Core Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

• Leads Business Availability and Disaster Recovery strategy for Windows systems across the account.

• Ensures availability and DR strategy align with corporate business requirements and objectives.

Business & Systems Alignment

• Applies extensive knowledge of business availability requirements to systems design, development, and support. 

• Translates long-term business requirements into systems and infrastructure design decisions. 

Business Availability Responsibilities 

• Assesses and documents current-state Windows solution architectures. 

• Designs and recommends high-availability Windows solutions, including Microsoft Server clustering and VMware-based infrastructure, aligned with business and technical requirements. 

• Develops migration strategies, implementation roadmaps, and associated bills of materials for Windows environments. 

• Ensures proposed Windows solutions integrate effectively with the Disaster Recovery practice. 

• Collaborates with account teams to gather operational knowledge and support transition planning. 

Disaster Recovery Responsibilities 

• Leads design reviews to validate that Windows solutions meet recovery objectives. 

• Owns DR documentation, runbooks, and supporting artifacts for Windows systems. 

• Coordinates and executes planned DR testing activities. 

• Monitors and evaluates DR infrastructure capacity for Windows systems across on-premises and cloud environments. 

Supporting Systems Administration Background 

• Provides systems administration support (installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, applications, and connectivity) for Windows environments across multiple locations, as needed to support availability and DR objectives. 

• Advises on programming tools, database systems, and networks relevant to Windows environments. 

• Remediates daily incident tickets, ensures system compliance, and supports testing, staging, and policy/procedure improvements affecting availability and reliability. 

• Coordinates with clients and stakeholders on recommendations to address availability and reliability issues. 

You will be successful in this role if you have:

• BA/BS degree and 8+ years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Master's degree preferred.

• Expert-level Windows systems administration expertise, applied to Business Availability and/or Disaster Recovery design for enterprise infrastructure.

• Proven ability to lead Business Availability and Disaster Recovery design and strategy, and advise across the organization on complex, business-critical availability and recovery issues.

• Experience with Microsoft Server, including clustering.

• Experience with VMware.

• Familiarity with disaster recovery and high availability in cloud environments: Oracle OCI and Microsoft Azure.

• U.S. Citizenship and U.S. residency required.
