The Senior Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting JaxPAL's financial operations by overseeing advanced accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supervising day-to-day accounting activities. This position provides leadership to accounting staff, helps strengthen internal controls, and supports compliance and strategic financial initiatives. The role is critical in maintaining financial integrity while advancing the organization's mission.Essential duties and responsibilitiesAdvanced Accounting & Close Process: Lead monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes.Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.Ensure accuracy and completeness of the general ledger.Identify and resolve complex accounting issues.Supervision & Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor Staff Accountant and/or accounting support staff.Review work for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with policies.Provide training and guidance in accounting procedures and systems.Assist in developing standard operating procedures and improving workflows.Financial Reporting: Prepare and review internal financial statements and reports.Assist the CFAO with board reports, financial presentations, and analysis.Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.Contribute to development of financial dashboards and reporting tools.Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight: Oversee AP/AR processes to ensure timely processing and accuracy.Review vendor payments, expense reports, and invoicing activities.Monitor receivables and assist with collection efforts as needed.Compliance & Audit Support: Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies.Take a lead role in audit preparation, including coordinating schedules and documentation.Support grant accounting, compliance, and reporting requirements.Assist with implementation of audit recommendations.Cash & Financial Management Support: Assist with cash flow analysis and financial planning.Monitor cash activity and account balances.Support financial risk management and process improvements.Collaboration & Organizational Support: Partner with program managers to support budgeting and grant tracking.Assist leadership with financial decision‑making and analysis.Participate in cross‑functional projects and process improvement initiatives.QualificationsStrong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems).Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.High attention to detail and organizational skills.Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Experience with fund accounting and grant management (preferred).Experience with financial audits and regulatory compliance (preferred).Work Environment & Expectations: Full‑time position based in Jacksonville, FL. Standard business hours with flexibility during close cycles and audits. Occasional evenings for board or committee meetings.
