    About the Role

    We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join our accounting and finance team. The ideal candidate will manage complex accounting functions, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support strategic decision-making. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of accounting principles, adherence to deadlines, a resourceful, solutions-oriented mindset and the ability to mentor junior staff.


    Key Responsibilities:

    General Accounting

    • Prepare and record monthly journal entries.
    • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
    • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
    • Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts and investigate variances.
    • Prepare the fixed asset schedule, prepaid expenses schedule and other supporting schedules for internal and external financial reporting.
    • Participate in process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations.


    Bank Reconciliations and Cash Management

    • Perform timely and accurate monthly bank reconciliations for multiple operating and investment accounts.
    • Research and resolve outstanding reconciling items and discrepancies.
    • Monitor daily cash activity and assist with cash forecasting.
    • Coordinate with treasury and operational departments to ensure proper recording of cash transactions including expense reimbursements.
    • Recommend process improvements to strengthen cash controls and reconciliation efficiency.


    Budget and Financial Analysis

    • Prepare accounting entries related to premiums, claims, and commissions.
    • Assist in the annual budgeting process, including gathering departmental budget submissions and preparing consolidated budgets.
    • Support quarterly forecasts and long-range financial planning.
    • Analyze actual financial results against budget and forecast, identifying significant variances.
    • Prepare management reports and financial analyses to support strategic decision-making.
    • Partner with department leaders to monitor budget performance and provide financial guidance.


    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • CPA designation preferred.
    • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience in P&C Insurance.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP and SAP accounting standards.
    • Proficiency in accounting software (General Ledger).
    • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.


    Preferred Skills:

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Experience with process automation or financial system implementations.


    Travel:Minimum, as required
