Job Title: Tournant / Prep Cook Company: The Palace at Somerset Park Reports To: Executive Chef / Sous Chef Department: Kitchen / Back of House Pay Range: $18 - $20 an hour based on experience Job Description: The Tournant / Prep Cook is a flexible and skilled culinary professional who can rotate across all kitchen stations as needed - grill, sauté, prep, garde manger, and pastries. This position ensures continuity and quality in food preparation and presentation. This role demands technical knowledge, adaptability, and a commitment to culinary excellence. Key Responsibilities: - Work across various stations as assigned (e.g., grill, sauté, garde manger and pastry)
- Execute menu items with precision, speed, and consistency
- Assist in the setup, stocking, and breakdown of stations
- Follow standardized recipes and portioning for all dishes
- Ensure high standards of sanitation, cleanliness, and food safety
- Collaborate with chefs to ensure timely service during events
- Communicate needs, shortages, or concerns to sous chefs
- Monitor quality and freshness of all prepared items
- Uphold presentation standards during both prep and service
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen work areas
Skills: - Strong culinary technique across various cooking methods
- Time management and ability to multitask in a fast-paced kitchen
- Ability to take initiative and jump into any kitchen role as needed
- Understanding of kitchen workflow, order of operations, and timing
