Description: This role is for an RN specializing in MedSurg/Tele. The facility is a level 1 trauma designation and a teaching hospital. The unit typically has 8 beds. Daily patient census averages around 8 patients. Patient types include general medical, cardiac conditions, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, chest pain, and fluid overload. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. Support within the department includes CNAs assisting with vital signs and daily living activities. A charge nurse will be available but may have a full assignment on occasion. Phlebotomy is required for peripheral blood draws, and RNs will start their own IVs. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 upon request. Clientists and intensivists are also available round-the-clock. Telemetry monitoring and tech support are provided. RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting cardiac strips during their shifts. The electronic medical record system used is Epic. Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell for medication dispensing. Unit culture is friendly, and the workplace is an academic medical center. Scrub color is royal blue.
