Gopuff: A Brief History

Gopuff was founded in 2013 by Drexel University sophomores Rafael Ilishayev and Yakir Gola. At the time, Gola was the only one out of their group of friends with a car and was running too many errands for them. After three months of drafting the business concept in their class notes, Ilishayev and Gola began delivering late-night snacks, hookahs, and tobacco products around the Philadelphia college campus.

Within the next few years, the company expanded into a full-fledged delivery service. They moved into other major cities throughout the United States while raising millions of dollars to fund their expansion. In 2020, Gopuff purchased alcoholic beverage chain BevMo!, which had 161 stores located throughout California, Washington, and Arizona.

In 2021, Gopuff acquired another alcoholic beverage chain, Liquor Barn. It also teamed up with Uber Eats to sell its products through the Uber Eats app. Today, Gopuff operates in more than 1,000 U.S. cities, delivers over 4,000 types of products, and has a net worth of about $15 billion.
