Additional Comments CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT: Candidates appointed to the Trainee 1, Trainee 2, or Journey (G-16) level will be required to obtain, before completion of their traineeship and/or probation, a total of five valid certifications (or a passing score reports) from the Automobile/Light truck series (A Series) AND/OR from the Medium/Heavy truck test series (T Series) from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). To be eligible for appointment, candidates must meet one of following conditions as detailed below: NY HELPS*: Automotive Facilities Inspector, G-16: Five years of experience as an automotive mechanic, automotive diagnostician, or automotive technician instructor which must have included diagnosis and repair of On-Board Diagnostic 2 (OBD2) Systems.
