Job Summary Battelle is currently seeking a Biology Technician experienced in cell culture and in vitro assays. This position is Monday through Friday and will work occasional overtime on nights and weekends; schedule may include holidays. This position is located in Columbus, Ohio with the expectation to move to West Jefferson, OH. Responsibilities + Work projects may include but are not limited to: + Working with hazardous biological materials in Biological Safety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory + Supporting in vivo pathogenicity/efficacy/toxicology studies + Participate in the development, validation, and/or qualification of equipment and biological assays + Ability to execute study protocols, methods, and SOPs + Ability to work independently and efficiently in a team environment + Decontaminating equipment and materials + Willing to handle toxic materials + Maintaining appropriate documentation + Perform assays such as ELISA, nucleic acid isolations, quantitative PCR, cell viability, etc. + Maintenance and optimization of mammalian cell cultures, including complex in vitro models (e.g., organoids, microphysiological systems). + Recognize when technical operations deviate from accepted practices. + Read SOPs, methods, facility guidelines, etc. used in workplace in a timely manner and adhere to these procedures. + Use proper techniques to operate necessary equipment to produce high quality data. Operate routine computer programs and perform basic data manipulation in a spreadsheet environment. Set up, validate, and operate laboratory equipment and software. Ensure that all equipment used for studies is routinely maintained and/or calibrated. + Perform experiments using ratios, percentages, linear regression algorithms, and other basic mathematical and scientific principles. + Ensure that the proper solutions are prepared, that solutions and reagents are not beyond their expiration date, and that the proper paperwork is maintained. Be responsible for ordering reagents, supplies, and equipment. Organize, clean, and maintain the facility laboratories in accordance with GLP and ISO guidelines. + Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of theory behind applications and ability to troubleshoot if needed. + Maintain a good work attendance record and be punctual for all project work. + Adhere to all laboratory safety requirements. Key Qualifications + Associate’s degree in Biology or Biochemistry or related field; 1 year experience. + Strong written and oral communication skills. + Must be a US citizen. + Ability to obtain/maintain DoJ Security Risk Assessment (SRA) approval. + Ability to obtain/maintain CDC approval to work with BSAT material. + Must be willing to work in a biosafety level 2 (BSL2) and able to wear appropriate respiratory protection. + Must be willing to participate in random drug screening. + Respond appropriately to various alarms and potential emergency situations. + Sufficiently medically fit to do work in a lab wearing appropriate respiratory equipment and perform all assigned duties. + Ability to work night, weekend, and holiday hours. + Newly hired employees are subject to a 90 day Introductory Period, during which their performance is evaluated by supervision. Job Summary As a Molecular Biologist II, you will be joining a dynamic team performing cutting-edge research across multiple biological disciplines. Operating in a collaborative environment, you will provide support to laboratory and literature-based studies and will help to mentor and train other staff members. This full-time position will be located in Columbus, Ohio. Responsibilities + Perform targeted literature reviews, applying experience and judgment to: + Select and adapt technical approaches/solutions for complex assignments with minimal oversight. + Develop new/novel assays independently or with minimal guidance. + Independently troubleshoot experiments. + Identify gaps in the current state-of-the-art + Support literature reviews and technical feasibility assessments. + Apply experience of molecular biology, cell biology, and microbiology to design and execute laboratory experiments independently and with small teams of laboratory staff to: + Adapt and develop methods to conduct DNA, RNA, and/or protein isolation, purification, and quantification. + Perform PCR amplification, standard and complex DNA and RNA sequencing methods, including: amplicon sequencing, whole genome sequencing, exome sequencing, transcriptomics, methylation sequencing, metagenomics and multiome sequencing, etc. + Work independently to meet study objectives and deliverables with guidance from senior scientists. + Mentor laboratory personnel. + Analyze and interpret experimental data and assist in the preparation of technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations. + Participate in identification of business opportunities and development of proposals, white papers, and marketing plans. + Follow established safety guidelines to safely work with hazardous/infectious (RG2) materials. Some domestic travel is possible but not anticipated. Key Qualifications + PhD or MS and >2 years or BS and >5 years of experience in a relevant biological discipline. + Foundational knowledge and interest in molecular biology, sequencing applications, and adjacent fields. + Hands-on experience with nucleic acid and protein extraction, purification, and analysis. + Ability to adapt and implement published experiments and protocols to advance project objectives. + Proven ability to conduct experiments according to standard operating procedures. + Proactive approach to problem solving and commitment to achieving quality results on schedule. + Good oral and written communication skills. + Ability to work in a team environment and train less experienced staff. + U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment. + Sufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory to perform assigned duties including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE), lift up to 50 pounds, and work in the proximity of hazardous/infectious materials. JOB DESCRIPTION Wood is currently sourcing for a Laboratory Technician to join our team in Hebron, OH. As a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for conducting various laboratory tests and experiments to support research and development activities. Experience in operating gas chromatography for petroleum analysis is required. Your expertise in molecular biology, microbiology, and quality control will be essential in ensuring accurate and reliable results (fuel & lube samples). This is a full-time position based in our industrial laboratory. U.S. Only: Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required. RESPONSIBILITIES Process chemist with expertise to run a petrochemical/refinery process monitoring lab. Ability to work on research teams for manufacturing, feedstock, and product characterization. Capable of performing complex research and experiments to develop new methods and procedures under a safe environment. Experience to build a comprehensive technical report and present these findings to operations, Engineers, or Scientists. Expertise in spectrophotometry for process water testing, thermal analysis technique such as thermogravimetric analysis and gas chromatography. - Process design: Develop and optimize chemical-pyrolysis processes to produce hydrocarbon compounds, or the production of existing compounds on a large scale. <ul><li>Process scale-up: Conduct laboratory-scale experiments to determine the feasibility of new processes, and then scale them up for production.</li><li>Process optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of chemical processes, including factors such as yield, efficiency, and safety.</li><li>Process troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve any problems that arise during the production of hydrocarbon/chemical compounds, including issues related to quality, cost, and safety.</li><li>Equipment design: Design and specify the equipment and materials needed for chemical processes, lab testing and oversee the installation and commissioning of new equipment.</li><li>Cost analysis: Conduct cost analyses to determine the economic viability of new processes and make recommendations for process improvement.</li><li>Quality Control/Assurance: Perform testing under ASTM methods and adhere or improve the existing quality management systems and lab information management system.</li><li>Compliance: Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations.</li><li>Technical competence: ability to use the following instrument. <ul><li>TGA, DSC, EA, FTIR, CIC for solid feed and hydrocarbon product characterization. </li><li>HACH testing kits for process waste quality analysis. </li><li>Gas chromatography (GC) for simulated distillation analysis of petroleum product</li></ul></li></ul> QUALIFICATIONS <ul><li>Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering </li><li>Associate degree in Chemistry with over 2 years' experience in process lab environment </li><li>Extensive experience in thermal process instruments such as TGA, DSC, EA.</li><li>Strong knowledge of LIMS usage as administrator or user</li><li>Experience with pyrolysis processes is a plus.</li><li>Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex process issues.</li><li>Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.</li><li>Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.</li></ul>
