Port Saint Lucie Community Health Nurse Jobs Overview
When you think of nursing jobs, you might picture someone working in a hospital. For those with community health nurse jobs, their work often takes them out of hospitals or offices so they can work people living in at-risk or underserved areas. The majority of community health nurses are employed by local governments and spend most of their working hours in neighborhoods to communicate with residents, hold healthcare events, and collect data.
Community health nurses educate about disease and illness and promote wellness by helping people adopt healthy behaviors. They encourage their patients to seek preventative healthcare service like cancer screenings and coordinate transportation. With the older population, they help explain Medicare. A portion of their work is also hands-on to provide basic health services—things like first aid, diabetic foot checks, and blood pressure screenings.
They collect information from these activities to prepare reports for government and social service agencies for funding. Their focus areas include infectious and sexually transmitted diseases, obesity, poor nutrition, substance abuse, smoking, and teen pregnancy
Community health is a growing priority for state and local governments. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates that community health nurse jobs will see growth of 17% over the next 10 years.

About Working in Port Saint Lucie, Florida
Why would you name a city after a port when it doesn’t have a port? There is a perfectly good explanation for that—marketing. General Development Corporation (GDC), a land development company, created Port Saint Lucie in the 1960s. Their first big project was to develop Port Charlotte, city on the west side of Florida, and decided from there that they would name all of their developments “Port Whatever.”
At least they spelled it correctly. Apparently, one of the first Port Saint Lucie jobs naming streets went to someone without a spell checker. Among the city’s thoroughfares are Twylite Terrace, Aubudon Avenue, Amethist Terrace, and Issac Road. At least the city council passed an ordinance to fix “Cresent Avenue.”
No matter what street you live on in Port Saint Lucie, you can be proud that you are in a city that’s been named among the best places to live in Florida, the fastest-growing places in the U.S., and the safest places to live in the country. You’d be halfway between Orlando and Miami and enjoy a quieter atmosphere than you can find in larger Florida cities. If you’re looking for a job in the Port Saint Lucie area, you might also want to look at nearby cities named Fort Pierce, Palm Beach Gardens, and West Palm Beach.
