Summer 2026 Human Resource InternshipThe International Institute of New England is a 501(c)(3) non-profit serving refugees and immigrants in Boston, MA, Lowell, MA, and Manchester, NH. The Institute offers internships to students, graduate students, and recent graduates with demonstrated interest or experience in supporting refugee, asylee, and immigrant populations. Each internship includes an educational component, through which interns contextualize their experience and reflect on their service.All internships are unpaid and correspond roughly with the US School (Education) semester system:<ul><li>Summer Internship: June through mid-August 2026</li></ul>First consideration is given to applicants who can commit at least 20 hours per week over the course of the semester outlined above. Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of whether their schedule fits the semester system; IINE makes exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Slots fill quickly and candidates are encouraged to apply earlier than the requested date above.This internship has a on-site format. Ideally, we are looking to recruit individuals near to the Lowell area who are able to commute into the office.Human Resource Internship OverviewThe Human Resources Intern will work closely with the HR Generalist and other members of the HR team to support a variety of administrative and project-based tasks. This internship is a great opportunity for someone who wants practical exposure to HR operations in a mission-driven nonprofit environment. The Advanced Capabilities and Systems Group is an agile, innovative, multi-disciplinary team developing novel system and technology concepts that address the nation’s critical security challenges. The group leverages focused analysis to understand solutions to defense and intelligence problems, and then develops the solutions in a fast cycle of experimentation and prototyping. The group supports the Army, Air Force, Navy, Special Operations Forces, the Intelligence Community, and other government agencies in a wide variety of prototyping efforts principally focused on radio frequency systems and autonomous systems. The Group consists of talented technical staff with expertise in electromagnetics, signal processing, radio frequency systems, antenna design, statistics, optimization, machine learning, autonomous control, software engineering, and embedded systems. Job Description: The Advanced Capabilities & Systems Group is seeking summer internship candidates to conduct research and analyze advanced wireless communication, radar, and electronic warfare techniques and signal processing algorithms both in the laboratory and in the field.  Strong candidates will have experience with signal processing theory, which may include digital communications, RF propagation phenomena, modulation and coding, medium access control, and/or multiple access techniques. In addition to the above topics, there are other potential summer internship opportunities with the group, and we will broadly consider candidates meeting the position requirements below. Requirements:  <ul><li style="font-family:'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;font-size:12pt">Pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or similar field.</li><li style="font-family:'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;font-size:12pt">Demonstrated excellence in communication skills and the ability to convey technical concepts in a clear, concise manner to a wide spectrum of audiences.</li></ul> Desired Skills:  Experience in signal processing techniques, data analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB), and C or C++ programming is strongly desired.    Summer Research Program Overview: The Summer Research Program offers students the chance to apply their academic knowledge to real-world national security challenges while working alongside leading scientists and engineers.
