p>• Directs the Pipe Laborer on what tools are needed in the trench, the length of the pipe, and how to cut the pipe • Communicates with the operator about the alignment of the pipe by using hand signals to ensure the proper depth • Digs trenches with trenching tools • Understands trench safety requirements, soil types, and use of protective systems • Slides pipe into trenches • Inserts spaces in between or around pipes • Pulls out defective or misaligned pipe • Cutting, aligning, and joining sections of pipe • Corrects alignments with sledgehammers • Inspects places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specifications • Lays pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains • Seals joints by mechanical means, boltswrenches • Ensures pipes are installed and sloped or leveled correctly using transit levels, grade rods, or lasers • Assists the Pipe Supervisor with planning out the jobs by reviewing blueprints • Drills holes into pipes for auxiliary lines • Other related or general labor duties as assigned.
