Primary work responsibilities may include: preparing road surfaces for painting; setting up and tearing down barricades and safety cones; assisting in the installation and revitalization of traffic control pavement markings; assisting in the installation, removal, replacement, and maintenance of street and traffic control signs; operating, as training allows, center line and hand striping machines, thermoplastic machines and melting kettles, cold laid plastic machines, bituminous machines, and core hole drills; assisting in the construction of street and traffic control signs; and performing additional duties in service to the department. Work is performed in a variety of uncontrolled work environments including but not limited to: in close proximity to heavy traffic traveling at various rates of speed; in unkempt areas with tall weeds and potentially poisonous plants; and exposure to ants, bees, insects, and other local wildlife.
