YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:As a Construction Inspector, your responsibilities will encompass:Performing field inspections of roadway and infrastructure construction activities for compliance with project plans, specifications, contract documents, and DDOT requirementsInspecting maintenance of traffic (MOT) implementation and monitoring traffic control measures throughout construction activitiesInspecting HMA paving operations, including placement, compaction, and associated roadway workInspecting curb and gutter, sidewalk, and PCC concrete constructionMonitoring utility trenching, backfilling, restoration, and resetting of water utilitiesInspecting streetlighting installation and associated construction activitiesCoordinating daily field activities with contractors, project personnel, DDOT representatives, utility companies, and other project stakeholdersPreparing detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, quantities, labor, equipment, materials, site conditions, and project progressReviewing contractor work for conformance with approved plans, specifications, and DDOT construction requirementsMonitoring quality assurance materials testing activities and reviewing associated testing reports and documentationDocumenting deficiencies, nonconforming work, field conditions, and other construction-related issues and communicating findings to appropriate project personnelMaintaining accurate field records, photographs, material documentation, inspection reports, and other required project documentationVerifying quantities and documenting completed work as requiredCommunicating construction progress, field issues, and upcoming activities with project personnelMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and abilities:5+ years of construction inspection experience, preferably involving roadway, transportation, or heavy civil infrastructure constructionExperience coordinating with contractors and construction personnel in an active field environmentExperience preparing construction inspection reports and maintaining accurate project documentationExperience with quality assurance materials testing and reviewing materials testing reportsKnowledge of roadway construction activities, including HMA paving, PCC concrete, curb and gutter, sidewalks, utility work, and maintenance of trafficAbility to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, details, and contract documentsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to accurately document construction activities, quantities, field conditions, and deficienciesAbility to work independently in the field while coordinating effectively with contractors and project personnelAbility and willingness to work primarily during night-shift hours, approximately 8:00 PM to 8:00 AMAbility to lift up to 50 poundsAbility to walk over rough and uneven terrain and, on occasion, stand for up to 12 hours per dayAbility to perform physical tasks associated with field inspection activities, including bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, grasping, reaching, raising hands above the head, sitting, climbing, and balancingAbility to work outdoors in various weather conditions and on varying terrainPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Previous construction inspection experience on District Department of Transportation (DDOT) projectsFamiliarity with DDOT processes, procedures, construction requirements, and specificationsExperience with roadway reconstruction projects in Washington, DC, or similar urban environmentsExperience inspecting MOT, HMA paving, PCC concrete, utility construction, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and streetlightingIf you meet these criteria and are ready to embark on an exciting opportunity, we encourage you to apply and be part of our team!
