ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs screenings according to state regulations along with related tasks including: documenting results, parent notification, referrals, and referral follow up; Ensures newly enrolled/current students are in compliance with state regulations such as preschool physicals and up to date immunization records; Administers medications and treatments as prescribed; Obtains medical orders for procedures and medication administration; Reports major health concerns to the School Nurse Coordinator within appropriate time limits; Provides first aid; Responds to medical emergency situations; Reports illnesses and injuries to the School Nurse Coordinator for review, care and/or follow-up; Contacts parents of ill or injured students; Maintains confidentiality on student/staff information; Understands and follows HIPAA and FERPA regulations; Maintains a clean and orderly health office; Attends ongoing in-service education programs as deemed appropriate by the School Nurse Coordinator; Documents all encounters and health information in the electronic documentation program; Maintains a current master file of student health emergency information; Initiates and distributes incident and accident reports according to the school division policy; Completes local and state school reports as required; Orders, inventories, and oversees the storage of first aid and health-related equipment; Provides supervision for sick or injured students until they are placed under their parent/guardian's care; Collaborates with school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of school children; Collaborates with teachers, parents, and healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized healthcare plans; Assists with health and safety policy development and implementation. Fosters a healthy school environment by promoting wellness initiatives and addressing health concerns; Refers students who require further medical attention and provides appropriate community resources; Educates students, staff, and parents on health-related topics; Trains and supervises staff in performing specialized health care procedures; Performs other duties as required.
