As an occupational therapy assistant, you’ll work under the direction of an occupational therapist. Your activities will include things like setting up equipment and encouraging and helping patients complete their therapy activities and use equipment correctly. An important part of your job will be to record and report patient progress to your occupational therapist.

The BLS reports that most occupational therapy assistant jobs break down into three categories: About 45% work in offices or clinics run by occupational therapists, 17% are in skilled nursing facilities, and 16% work in hospitals.

Occupational Therapy Assistant Training and Skills

An occupational therapy assistant needs an associate degree that usually takes two years to complete at a community college or technical school. Part of this education is 16 weeks of hands-on experience in a healthcare facility plus classroom courses that include:
