Job Description: The Department of Physical Sciences, Engineering, and Technology (PSET) at DCC invites applications for a Tenure-Track faculty position in Engineering Science with a specialization in Mechanical Engineering. This position has an expected start date in August2026. The PSET Department seeks a student-centered educator to join our faculty as a full-time Mechanical Engineering instructor. The successful candidate will teach a range of engineering courses, including: Introduction to Engineering; Engineering Seminar; Computer Programming for Engineers; Engineering Statics; Dynamics; and Mechanics of Materials. The successful candidate may also be asked to teach courses in calculus-based or algebra-based physics, including lectures and labs. Strong candidates will be individuals who are committed to the education of future engineering and those who are interested in working with a team of other educators in science and technology. As such, the successful candidate will have experience mentoring freshman and sophomore-year students. Primary responsibilities include: <ul><li>Teach classes in Engineering Science. </li><li>Develop and revise course curricula to reflect current industry trends and academic standards, including laboratory exercises using existing materials and facilities. </li><li>Incorporate technology and experiential learning into classroom instruction. </li><li>Assess student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback to students. </li><li>Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment. </li><li>Participate in departmental meetings, college-wide committees, and engage in campus community events. </li><li>Participate in assessment activities and professional development. </li><li>Contribute to program development through curriculum development, recruitment efforts, and community outreach. </li><li>Maintain regular office hours and provide academic support to students. </li></ul>Requirements: Minimum Qualifications<ul><li>Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Science, or a closely related field. </li><li>Official transcripts required upon hire. </li><li>College level teaching experience in engineering science. </li><li>Effective interpersonal and communication skills. </li><li>An appreciation for diversity for all types and how diversity impacts learning and instruction. </li></ul>Preferred Qualifications<ul><li>Ph.D. in Engineering or related field. </li><li>Experience teaching at a community college. </li><li>Experience in writing and developing course curricula, including developing hands-on learning exercises. </li><li>Demonstrated competencies in a variety of teaching methodologies and/or pedagogical approaches that reach a broad range of learners. </li><li>Teaching experience includes both in-person and online modalities. </li><li>An understanding and appreciation of the role of the community college in higher education. </li><li>Experience in using instructional technology in the classroom and a willingness to adopt new and emerging technologies. </li><li>Experience and familiarity with a learning management system (LMS) such as Brightspace, Blackboard, or Canvas. </li></ul>Additional Information: Review of applications will begin in January 2026 and will continue until the position is filled. Tenure-Track Faculty - Engineering Science is a full-time, permanent position. <ul><li>A current resume or curriculum vitae is required. </li><li>Professional letters of reference are required. </li></ul> New tenure-track full-time faculty with a terminal degree will normally be appointed at the rank of assistant professor, as per the college's Professional Staff Handbook. Classification: Dutchess United Educators (DUE), Tenure-Track Full-Time Teaching Educator Full-Time faculty positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Dutchess Community College (DCC) and Dutchess United Educators (DUE). Salary: $68,145 - $88,601, commensurate with experience and terminal degree.
