Contractor shall support approximately 10 small animal studies in BSL-2, -3, and -4 laboratories, by autonomously running downstream analysis including assessment of viral replication (plaque assay and RT-qPCR), transcriptomic analysis (spatial, single cell and/or bulk), blood chemistry, viral antigen and/or antiviral antibody detection using in-house Luminex assays or ELISAs, determine cytokine and chemokines levels. Design and perform basic and specialized molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: PCR, qRT-PCR, DNA preparations and purification, cloning, transformations, fluorescence in-situ Hybridization (FISH), flow cytometry, Western blot, IFAs, high content imaging, plaque assays, PRNTs, and other molecular biology techniques and other assays to support ongoing projects.

The Genomics Computational Systems Biologist shall provide laboratory and scientific support within the Center for Genome Sciences (CGS) to perform next generation sequencing computational and analytical tools, comprising the ability to construct high-throughput analysis pipelines for omics data, and to integrate with in-house databases. Analyze large-scale and high-throughput genomics datasets generated from Pacific Biosciences, Oxford Nanopore and Illumina sequencers (e.g., whole genome sequencing and RNA-Seq).

Design novel protocols and technologies to build DSD capabilities that are based on pathogen and/or host biomarker characterization, immune response characterization to understand host immune response post infection or MCM application, small molecule toxin research to include understanding host biomarker responses post exposure, toxicity, and organoid models, as well as other diagnostics relevant technologies. Evaluate large datasets from biomarker characterization efforts to include building bioinformatic pipelines for data processing and analysis using open-source programming languages (R, Python, etc) as well as visualization of large datasets for reports and presentations.

Construct mutant bacterial and viral strains and perform phenotypic characterization of the mutants using in vitro (growth kinetics, intracellular growth within macrophages) and in vivo (determine LD50 studies, bacterial/viral infection studies etc) methods.
