We truly enjoy hosting externs and having new graduates join our teams since with new team members always comes new shared knowledge!

DescriptionOverview:<a href="https://www.unitedveterinarycare.com/" rel="nofollow">United Veterinary Care</a> is delighted to host veterinary students for externships!  This valuable clinical experience will let you take what you’ve learned in the classroom and put it to the test in an animal hospital of your choice.  Our hands-on externships are designed exclusively for veterinary students at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools in their clinical years, typically meaning their 3rd or 4th year of vet school.  Since every student has different interests, we are excited to offer these programs at a wide variety of our amazing partner hospitals.  We know that travel and lodging expenses for externships can often be cost-prohibitive on a student’s budget.  To make our externships as accessible as possible, we offer stipends to externs to help offset these costs (unless prohibited by the veterinary school you are attending). Eligibility requirements:<ul><li style="margin-left:54.75pt;line-height:normal;background:white">Must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school</li><li style="margin-left:54.75pt;line-height:normal;background:white">Priority scheduling is given to students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit</li><li style="margin-left:54.75pt;line-height:normal;background:white">Must provide proof of professional liability insurance. Responsibilities:
Under the direction and authorization of the medical director and cardiopulmonary director/supervisor, the Student Respiratory Therapist is responsible for performing respiratory therapeutic and pulmonary diagnostic procedures as ordered by the physician.  Emphasis will be toward the assessment, planning, implementation and documentation of care, with consideration of age and population specific needs and requirements of the patient.  The Student Respiratory Therapist works under the direction of a registered or certified therapist. The competencies listed in sections I, II, and III will be learned as the student’s knowledge and skill level increases.  

Qualifications:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING 1. Basic Life Support (BLS) certified from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) upon hire and maintain current.2. Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the AHA or ARC certification upon hire and maintain current.3. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the AHA certification obtained within six (6) months of hire.4. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and AHA obtained within six (6) months of hire.5. At the minimum, the student must be enrolled in an accredited respiratory program and completed first semester of clinical rotations. Preferred, is a student who has completed more than one semester and/or other medical experience. 6. A high school diploma or equivalent is required7.
