Overview
--------The Student Nurse Aide works under the direction of the RN/LPN. The responsibilities of the Student Nurse include providing direct patient care standards. The Student Nurse must exhibit the ability to work with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds; to organize, set priorities and manage multiple priorities, and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.Responsibilities
----------------<ul><li>Provides basic and select advanced nursing care to patients within the Student Nurse Aide's scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and physical needs.</li><li>Advanced nursing activities that may be delegated to the competent Student Nurse Aide by the RN/LPN include simple dressing changes, phlebotomy, PIV removal, routine medication administration, and more as defined by policy.</li><li>Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age, gender, socioeconomic status, education, physical and mental abilities, and racial and ethnic background.</li><li>Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of patients.</li><li>Provides explanation to patients and families prior to administering care; answers questions within scope of practice.</li><li>Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function appropriately in stressful situations.</li><li>Responds to patients in emergency or physically distressing situations.</li><li>Documentation meets current standards and policies.</li><li>Assumes accountability for appropriate utilization of resources.</li><li>Performs other duties as assigned, within the Student Nurse Aide's scope of practice.</li></ul>Qualifications

---------<ul><li>High School/GED required.</li><li>Candidates must meet the following criteria:</li><li>Completed a minimum of one year of clinical experience within an academic nursing program.</li><li>Completed the following educational courses and clinical experience:</li><li>Fundamentals of Nursing</li><li>Pharmacology including medication administration.</li><li>Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited Associated Degree, Diploma or Baccalaureate Professional Nursing Program.</li><li>(Nursing graduates pending passage of the NCLEX are eligible.)</li></ul>License, Certification and/or Registration
