Department Overview:
The function of the Radiologic Technologist position within the Department of Diagnostic Imaging is to perform all phases of technical diagnostic imaging. Radiologic Technologists operate X-Ray equipment used to capture and develop images for the purpose of medical diagnosis. The Radiologic technologist promotes OHSU’s mission statement by delivering high quality, cost effective, family-oriented service. This position helps to create a collaborative environment by integrating education, research and clinical leadership. Radiologic Technologists work with infant, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

Function/Duties of Position:
Imaging<ul><li>Provides quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of all equipment.</li><li>Technologists will be trained in all general radiology exams/areas so that they are able to rotate through the department based on workflow needs.</li><li>Utilize the VIP transportation system to arrange for patient delivery. </li><li>Positions patient for diagnostic radiology exams according to department procedures, training, and machine requirements with a high regard for the safety and care of the patient.</li><li>Operates radiology equipment, determines and sets exposure factors, sets technique utilizing all relevant factors to ensure accurate and quality images with minimal and acceptable repeat rates.</li><li>Uses computer image processing, as needed to select, process, optimize and archive images to PACS.</li><li>Completely tracks exams in the Radiology Information system. </li><li>Develops and presents images and related patient information to radiologist for diagnosis. </li><li>Assists with patient transport by moving patients using standard procedures. </li><li>Assists in the training of Radiologic Technology Students, and adheres to dept. policy on supervision of student technologists.</li></ul>Documentation<ul><li>Gathers complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to customers.</li><li>Responsible to correctly identify patients by checking their identity per department procedure.</li><li>Reviews patient chart and orders to insure correct examination.</li><li>Labels images completely with demographic, position and other needed documentation. Follows dept policy on the use of anatomical markers.</li><li>Logs activities, gathers charging information and charges exams as required.</li><li>Follows department and hospital procedures and policies.</li><li>Performs quality control and quality assurance, records results and reports variance from normal equipment function.</li></ul>Other Duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
<ul><li>Current student from approved Radiologic Technology Program</li><li>Must have completed student competencies under the approved program. Must be within 4 months of graduation from approved program.</li><li>Must be a graduate of an accredited diagnostic radiography program that meets current qualifications to take and pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) board examinations in Radiography upon hire. </li><li>Student candidates must obtain the RT(R)(ARRT) certification within 6 months of their hire date. </li><li>Candidates must have a current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) temporary license for student hires and permanent license for registered hires. </li><li>BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation</li><li>Must have demonstrated skills in the following areas: Performing diagnostic imaging studies, Radiation safety, Effective use of equipment, Record maintenance, Infection control, Quality control, Compliance, Patient Communication, Contrast media, problem solving, judgment, teamwork and taking initiative.</li><li>Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation</li></ul>
