Under the direct supervision of the SOAR TRIO Administrative Lead, the SOAR TRIO Academic Advisor provides the following support and services to participants who are in CHSS majors ranging from freshman to senior: proactive academic advising, guidance, and retention support to encourage participant academic success; holistic assessment of the academic, career, and/or personal needs of participants to offer appropriate services and resources; assistance with transcript review, financial aid application, declaration of major/change of major, completing academic requirements, class registration, and graduate school exploration and resources; assists participants to complete program milestones, forms, and records; appropriately advocates for needs of participants to University entities/offices; assists to resolve problems that affects participant's ability to succeed in their educational and career pursuits; makes appropriate referrals to campus support offices; assists with the creation and execution of program workshops, community building activities, tutoring support efforts and other activities as assigned; and is a liaison to internal and external campus partners and the public at-large. Work closely and professionally with campus partners, including the SSS-TRIO Program, Undergraduate Advising Center, EOPP, Guardian Scholars, Metro, CA Promise, etc., to coordinate and align participant support efforts, maintain professional communication, stay current on practice/policy changes, and attend trainings/meetings.
