Responsibilities:Departmental Leadership: Direct all aspects of the surveying and geomatics department, providing high-level oversight for multiple field crews and technical support staff. This is not just a role for a technician; it is a leadership position for a professional ready to helm a Geomatics department, influence project direction, and drive the firm's regional growth.
The Mining Engineer is responsible for: directing engineering activities in surface mining, construction projects, site environmental compliance, permitting activities and other areas as needed; provide reserve evaluations, planning, cut and fill direction and project expansion studies; provide short- and long-range plans, design and equipment utilization. Regularly supervises Environmental Technicians and Specialists, including responsibility for hiring, training, mentoring, developing, scheduling, directing, managing performance and other related issues; review the work of, and is accountable for the performance of Environmental Technicians and Specialists.
p>Under general direction, performs mid-level engineering plan and project evaluations, provides technical expertise and assistance, serves as technical liaison, assists in interagency regulatory environmental compliance, performs infrastructure research, supervises, coordinates, or assists project staff and consultants, prepares pre-design and post-design cost estimates for water/sewer and capital improvements projects. Ability to deal with variables & determine specific action, deal with non-verbal symbols in formulas, equations, or graphics, communicate effectively in written, pictorial, & graphic form, develop accurate records & reports, handle contact with officials, employees, & the general public, define problems, collect data, establish facts, & draw valid conclusions, develop & write technical instructions.
p>Prepares or supervises preparation of construction plans for highway construction including pavement, traffic control, guardrail and drainage; Inspects or supervises inspection of all types of county highway construction projects performed by contractors; makes detailed hydraulic studies and calculations, as required; performs various surveying work, as required; supervises county work crews on projects; operates transit; checks grades and levels;
Estimates quantities and costs of materials needed in construction; assists in purchasing of materials and equipment for maintenance repair or replacement of culverts; prepares contract documents, advertisements, plans and specifications for bidding; performs all other related duties as required.
Knowledge of principles and theories of civil engineering; knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in public works construction; knowledge of surveying as related to development of preliminary plans for construction work; knowledge of highway, hydraulic design; knowledge of public relations; ability to prepare specifications and technical reports; ability to interpret field data; ability to communicate effectively; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors and the general public; ability to supervise others.
