The monitor technician:a. assigns a monitor and enters the patient information into the central monitoring systemb. places the telemetry monitor on the patient carefully identifying the patient using the two    hospital approved identifiersc. prepares the patient’s skind. correctly places leadse. secures the monitorf.  verifies with the central monitor station the correct patient, rate, and rhythme. documents required elements in the electronic medical record2.   Observes and interprets cardiac rhythm and rate3.   Timely and accurately records rhythm strips minimally every 4 hours.4.   Timely and accurately reports changes in a patients rate and/or rhythm5.   Performs a reconciliation process every 4 hours matching hospital census with the central monitor6.   Maintains meticulous interdepartmental records7.   Maintains and operates equipment safely and correctly8.   Cares for equipment appropriately:  cleaning; storing; promptly reporting issues9.   Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.10. Interacts professionally with patient/family and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary 11. Overview:
AICU is an 8-bed Medical/Surgical Adult ICU at the Huntsville Hospital for Women/Children campus. Orientation consists of working with an experienced staff and length of orientation is typically 6-12 weeks depending on experience. AICU is the only adult critical care unit at the Women/Children campus. The AICU offers a challenging workflow for RN’s.  AICU receives a variety of patients that includes primarily critical Medical patients, but also Antepartum, Postpartum, GYN Oncology, GYN, ENT, and any adult patient at WC that requires intensive monitoring.  The RN’s in AICU are trained to care for a variety of critical situations including hemorrhage, critical OB, CRRT, ventilators, and titrating drips.  We have 4-beds wired for fetal monitoring that is monitored by an L&D RN on our campus for our critical Antepartum patient. AICU RN’s are responsible for all Rapid Responses and Code Blue situations for the adult patient population at WC.  The staff in AICU works closely with health care providers to provide excellent care and compassion to our customers. Our staff has the opportunity to participate in Shared Governance, Clinical Ladder programs, and CEU offerings available online & at Corporate University.

Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing License, Certification and/or Registration: Current Alabama or Multi-state Nursing License required.BLS for Healthcare Providers must be obtained in the orientation period. ACLS within one year of hire.Experience:  New RN graduates accepted. Additional Skill/Abilities: Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently. Department specific competencies must be completed within the provisional period.
