One of seven clinics within the law school’s nationally recognized Student Law Office, the CEDC supports community-based revitalization and economic development initiatives by providing free legal services to nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and other community-based enterprises across a range of areas, including: drafting documents relating to business entity formation; assisting nonprofit organizations with applications for tax-exempt status; drafting and reviewing contracts; counseling nonprofit organizations and small businesses; and working with federal, state, and local governmental agencies. Students in the CEDC work closely with clients while developing core transactional, advisory, and regulatory practice skills transferable across a wide range of legal settings, including legal analysis, client counseling and communication, legal drafting, research and planning, project management, advocacy, collaboration, and navigating group dynamics in community-based work.
