Early childhood teachers should be at least 19 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED) in addition, the early childhood teacher shall have achieved: associate's degree in child development or early childhood education or, one year, 1,560 clock hours, experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours of credits from an accredited college or university with at least six semester hours in early childhood education or child development; or Child Development Associate Credential (CDA); or, Certified Childcare Professional (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation); or Gateways to Opportunity Credentials of ECE 3 or higher or ITC 3 or higher. Duties include but are not limited to: • Plan and implement learning experiences that promote all developmental areas, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy phonemic, print, numeric awareness, and language.
