The full time ESOL Teacher provides high-quality instruction within an adult education program, serving adult English language learners across multiple proficiency levels.

Position Title: ESOL Teacher (Adult Education)Supervisor: Director of EducationStatus: Full-time, 35 hours per week, hourly, non-exemptLocation: Lackawanna NY and Buffalo, NY Job DescriptionThe full time ESOL Teacher provides high-quality instruction within an adult education program, serving adult English language learners across multiple proficiency levels. This position includes afternoon instruction in Lackawanna for a beginner-intermediate ESOL literacy class four days a week with the potential to teach remotely, focusing on foundational English language skills and literacy development. In the evenings, the instructor will lead an in-person class focused on high intermediate-advanced ESOL GED preparation two days a week, integrating English language instruction with history, science, and math concepts aligned with GED standards.Job Responsibilities<ul><li>Plan and deliver engaging evening ESOL/GED preparation lessons for high intermediate-advanced adult English language learners.</li><li>Integrate English instruction with GED-related content, including history, science, and math.</li><li>Adapt instruction to meet diverse language proficiency levels and learning needs</li><li>Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.</li><li>Maintain accurate attendance, assessments, and instructional records.</li><li>Foster an inclusive, respectful, and encouraging classroom environment.</li><li>Collaborate with program staff as needed to support student success.</li><li>Use assessment data and reflection to refine curriculum and change instructional practices and support grant/funding requirements.</li><li>Create a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment in a diverse classroom with high expectations that encourage student responsibility and enhance motivation.</li><li>Attend all staff meetings and common JERS responsibilities.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Reliable transportation required.</li><li>Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with two years’ experience.</li><li>Valid New York State Teacher certification preferred.</li><li>TABE Test and BEST Plus Administrator preferred.</li><li>Demonstrated experience teaching ESOL and GED preparation, both in person and remotely, preferably in adult education setting.</li><li>Ability to work effectively with adult learners from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.</li><li>Possess the ability to be flexible, creative, and willing to collaborate with other teachers.</li></ul>Journey’s End is committed to the purpose of providing refugees with the resources and support they need to become successful, active, and contributing members of the Western New York community.
